The player receives a package that contains a VHS tape, which shows a commercial for the titular doll Poppy Playtime and tours of the factory before abruptly cutting to spliced-in footage of graffiti of a poppy, and a letter from the missing staff, requesting them to "find the flower". They then enter the abandoned toy factory and, after solving the code to a security door, acquire the GrabPack, which they use to unlock the door to the lobby. After entering the lobby, the player is introduced to Huggy Wuggy, who is on display in the center of the room. While trying to unlock one door in the lobby, the power suddenly cuts, forcing them to restore power in the power room.

After freeing Poppy from her case, the player explores the back halls of the factory, eventually finding the office of Elliot Ludwig, Playtime's founder. After entering the vents in the office, they encounter Poppy, who thanks them for freeing her and offers to help them escape the factory by giving them a code to activate the factory's train. However, she is grabbed and pulled deeper into the factory. As they approach the Game Station where the train is located, the player encounters Mommy Long Legs, who holds Poppy hostage and takes the red hand from the player's GrabPack. She challenges the player to win the three games in the Game Station, and in return will give the player the code for the train, threatening to kill them if they disobey the rules. Making their way through the factory, the player crafts the green hand for the GrabPack and then proceeds through the three games.

Originally starting out as a Kickstarter campaign, the idea of Poppy Playtime was originally thought of by game director Isaac Christopherson, stating that people called most indie horror games 'Walking Simulators', giving Mob Entertainment the idea to "create something with gameplay that doesn't feel quite so run-of-the-mill, while still staying exciting, terrifying, and unique." A trailer for the game's first chapter was uploaded in September 2021.[9][10]

The Game Station is a location seen in Poppy Playtime, making its grand debut in Chapter 2: Fly in a Web. The area acts a lobby that the Player patronizes throughout the runtime of the second chapter. The Game Station connects all three mini-games we play in order to collect the Train Code.

On the ceiling of the Game Station, there is a control room. This control room is full of innovative technology, security cameras, etc. We get to access this room after killing Mommy Long Legs during a game of Hide-and-Seek and traveling through Bay 09. When first encountering this room, Poppy Playtime can be seen trapped in the webs, and two documents reviewing the same kid who first played the games with difficulty, then later with ease. After freeing Poppy from the webs, we are instructed to escape with her via the Train seen below the Train Station.

The Player initially was tasked with simply activating the Game Station and taking the Train seen at the far end of the room. Prior to entering the Game Station, we activate the power via the Power Room seen to the left of the main entrance. As we use our Grabpack to open the door leading to the Game Station, the intimidating antagonist Mommy Long Legs interrupts us; ripping our red GrabPack hand and revealing herself alongside the captive Poppy Playtime. At the end of her monologue, Mommy instructs us to play what remains of the three mini-games in order to collect all three pieces to the Train Code in order to escape.

After defeating the Wack-a-Wuggy mini-game and successfully navigating ourselves through the Cart Corridors, we enter the Game Station yet again to find the Mini Huggies corpses hanging upon the cobwebs Bunzo Bunny previously occupied. We, for the last time, pull the final lever opening Statues. However unlike the previous two mini-games, the underground door leading to Statues breaks down and we must manually use our GrabPack to pull the door open. Nonetheless, we enter Statues.

In the beginning of Chapter 2, Mommy Long Legs presented herself with a warm and welcoming front to lure the player into participating her games, this facade however diminished very quickly as she threatened the player with death and the possibility of having their innards consumed by her, should the player refuse to bid by her commands. Throughout the variety of games the player has to play in to win and survive, Mommy Long Legs displays a sinister mix of childlike friendliness and mentally unhinged, making her movements unpredictable. She tends to mask her frustrations with a friendly childlike facade to hide her growing anger, such as when the player wins yet another game of her's, or when the player escaped from the Statue game area, causing Mommy to desperately try luring the player back into the game area with the false promise of giving them the train code, while increasingly getting furious and violent.

Through the events of Chapter 2, Mommy Long Legs ropes the player into participating multiple games, in which she claimed that she will hand pieces of the train code if they win the games. Mommy Long Legs however does everything in her power to prevent the player from winning and killing them in the end, such as rigging the games which the player is forced to participate in. For example, the Musical Memory game originally only had four colors, but Mommy Long Legs tampered with the mechanics so the program adds more colors and even mathematical properties to the game to increase the difficulty. Near the end of the game, she even doubled the panels and ramped up the speed of which the correct orders are displayed to make it impossible to win.

Mommy Long Legs seemed to have an extreme ego yet also suffers from attachment issues, as she boastfully claimed that the children she guided around the game station referred to her as Mommy, as she concluded that she is the closest thing that they have to a maternal figure, yet continued with saying that the children left her to die after finishing all the games, as they only had interests in the games, but not Mommy herself.

Mommy is first introduced while walking through the Game Station Hallway. As The Player is scanning their Red GrabPack Hand, Mommy climbs down and snatches the hand away. She then explains how she wants to play a game, as she hasn't played a game in years. She also taunts Poppy Playtime in the process by mimicking her voice. Mommy Long Legs promises the Train Station code if the player plays all three games seen in the Game Station.

Mommy is encountered a third time when the player enters the Wack-a-Wuggy game. She goes into detail how the Mini Huggies used to be tied to a string to prevent them from escaping and getting too close to the children, but now those strings are gone, and the Mini Huggies can freely move, allowing them to jump towards and jumpscare you. Once finished with the mini-game, Mommy becomes annoyed at the fact that the player has won yet again, but attempts to congratulate them while also holding back her frustration. She still gives the player the second piece of the Train Code as she talks about how it's sad that The Player will leave so soon, and how she wishes to play games with them forever. Once again after the player leaves the room, Mommy kills the Mini Huggies for failing her.
